The polls since his resignation show the Tories maintaining or even increasing their solid lead over Labour, so I don't know why you think this has damaged the Tory party. However my wife and I spent 10 years of our teen age years in the Armed Forces during the Last War and lost many friends and think he is wrong to put Human Rights before the fight against Terrorism. A defeat for Davis would strengthen the authoritarians in the party and could lead to Cameron failing to fulfil his promises to revoke some of Labour's more repressive legislation should the Tories win the next election. We live in a society that is fast becoming a Police State. My experience is that if you upset them (police) they will penalise you. I reported a policeman's car blocking my driveway and a few days later they reported me (wrongly) as unfit to drive to the DVLA. I wrote to the Police and they ignored my letter.
