More details
St Luke's Hospital in Rathgar, Dublin is to close by 2011.
Its facilties are to be moved to St James's Hospital which will become a 'Centre of Excellence'.
Hospital efficiency is good but we mustn't lose the unique sanctuary of St Luke's just because it is situated on prime real estate.
It is a gentle oasis for patients and their families;
unique because it offers both treatment and palliative care
unique because of its gentle atmosphere, something impossible to achieve in a big, busy 'Centre of Excellence' hospital;
unique because of the healing available to patient, carer and visitor from the tranquility of its gardens and atmosphere.
Yes we need to improve our health care but we must keep what is good about what we already have.
Please help to keep St Luke's open!
